AssistiveTouch is a feature that can help people with mobility disabilities and make the most of their iPhone or iPad. With AssistiveTouch, you will be able to perform several actions.

How to activate AssistiveTouch

  • Launch the settings of your home screen.
  • Touch General.
  • Tap on accessibility.
  • Press AssistiveTouch.
  • Press the button next to AssistiveTouch.

A black square with a white circle will appear on your screen. This is your shortcut to the AssistiveTouch menu and will appear on all screens. You can press it to open the AssistiveTouch menu or drag it around the screen if you try to do something.

You can also use Siri to activate AssistiveTouch.

How to use AssistiveTouch

Press the AssistiveTouch shortcut on your screen.

Press an option from:

Notification Center: Open the Notification Center so you don’t have to drag down from above.

Device: Allows you to perform various functions, such as locking the screen, adjusting the volume, rotating the screen and more

Control Center: Bring Control Center instead of having to drag from below

Home: brings you to the home screen without having to press the Home button

Siri: Enable Siri

Custom: Allows you to perform and add custom gestures, such as zooming

Note: These are the default buttons, but they can be modified at any time.

How to add personalized gestures to AssistiveTouch

Launch the settings of your home screen.

  • Touch General.
  • Tap on accessibility.
  • Press AssistiveTouch.
  • Tap Create new Action.

Touch or drag to create a new gesture. A series of swipes will be combined in a single multi-touch gesture.

Press Stop in the lower right corner when you are finished.

Press Play to preview your gesture, Record to re-record, or Record in the upper right corner of the screen to record it.

  • Type a name for your gesture.
  • Tap Save.

Your personalized gesture will now be available for you under personalized in the AssistiveTouch menu. You can also add custom gestures by tapping on command in the AssistiveTouch menu and pressing the “Add” button.

How to customize the top level menu for AssistiveTouch

  • Launch the settings of your home screen.
  • Touch General.
  • Tap on accessibility.
  • Press AssistiveTouch.
  • Press Customize Menu.
  • Press one of the “Add” buttons or press an existing icon.
  • Press a function or action.
  • Touch “Done” in the upper right corner.

Press the plus and minus buttons at the bottom right to add or subtract buttons. You can have up to eight icons.

These icons will be the first ones you see when you activate the AssistiveTouch menu.
